Numbering Paragraphs in Microsoft Word |
|
Issue
I use Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Word 2000. It seems that numbering paragraphs is hard to predict. When I make a template I copy all styles from my normal.dot to make sure they are consistent. However, I can't predict how they will come out. This is especially true when I insert one template
within another.
Are you aware of this problem? Do you have any suggestions?
Solution:
Word's Styles/Paragraph numbering is notoriously tricky.
If you are inserting a file within a file what will happen is the following:
At the point of insertion, if the Style name of the master document is DIFFERENT to the Style name of the first bit of text of the file being inserted, the resultant text will take on the style of the file/text being inserted.
At the point of insertion if the Style name of the master document is the SAME as the Style name of the file being inserted, the resultant text will retain the Style of the master document at the point of insertion.
The above has nothing to do with GhostFill - but is a general Word behaviour issue. Another general tip is to use unique Style names (i.e. not Word's built-in Styles) wherever possible.
